专题简介 (Session Description):

The severe geomagnetic activities have significant impacts on inner magnetosphere. Geomagnetic storms and substorms can bring dramatic evolutions to the ionosphere, aurora oval, plasmasphere, radiation belts, and ring current in the outer space; changing the electromagnetic and particle radiation levels; threatening the safety of space-based estates and astronauts. On the ground, geomagnetic disturbances can induce geo-electric fields in the Earth’s crust and drive electric currents in long conductors on or near the Earth’s surface. These ground induced currents present a risk to the reliable operation of electric power systems and may affect gas and oil pipelines, railways, and other infrastructures that have long conductive paths. This session will focus on the following topics: (1) variability of geomagnetic fields; (2) regional and global geomagnetic activity forecasting methods; (3) evaluation and prediction of the effects of geomagnetic activity with different levels on multiple technological systems and infrastructures.
