专题简介 (Session Description):

The ionosphere is the key region in space weather study and forecast area. Ionospheric disturbances can adversely affect radio signals that propagate through the upper atmosphere; disrupt communication, navigation, and surveillance capabilities over wide areas on timescale ranging from minutes to hours. These disturbances can be caused directly by solar flares or indirectly by interactions between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetic field. Solar flares primarily affect the dayside of the Earth, while solar wind can influence both the dayside and nightside. This session will mainly focus on: (1) ionospheric responses to solar activities and geomagnetic activities; (2) coupling dynamics between the ionosphere and thermosphere; (3) ionospheric and thermospheric forecasting methods.
